- Remove any non-edible items from the cake before serving.
- Never use non-edible items that are small enough to bite or swallow.
- Never use toothpicks to hold items or cake pieces together.
- Be careful where you place birthday candles on the cake. Keep them at least 2 inches away from anything flammable.
- Non-edible items on a cake are usually not designed for children under 3. It is a choking hazard.
- Notify your guests if you used nuts in or on your cake, in case they have a nut allergy. Some allergic reactions are fatal.
